Nigel was born and raised in Victoria, BC. In 2000, at age 19 Nigel started his studies at OCAD where he befriended Adam and studied printmaking and painting. After graduation, Nigel went on to have solo exhibitions in Shanghai, Toronto, Buenos Aires and New York. He has worked in a variety of media, including large-scale painted installations, publications, performance art and experimental video.
His bold, forceful brushstrokes create a vivid and dynamic image. His colour palette is a mix of exciting and turbulent hot reds and pinks as well as the menacing tones of blacks and charcoal greys. Nigel’s work sparks a captivating journey through memories, fantasies and fears where homoerotism and dark fiction find their home as recurring themes.
In June 2024, Nigel released Part 1 of Triple Slash: ///, a multimedia project with American poet Cody John Laplante. With a continuous scroll time of two and a half hours, it weaves together paintings, poems, videos, chat logs, emails, and legal documents into a cohesive narrative. Launch events featured 360-degree projections highlighting the work’s interactive nature. The piece offers a glimpse into Nigel and Cody’s turbulent friendship and archives queer intimacy. Part 2 is in production. Part 1 is open to the public here.
