Classes

Adults

  • Classes are 3h long and are weekly.
  • Sessions run for 8 weeks (except where a session is interrupted by too many public holidays and may run for less).
  • Students of all levels are welcome from beginners to advanced.  Our classes cover hand building, wheel throwing, sculpture, and glazing.
  • Our teaching approach is simple.  We have a structure for beginners to ensure that they cover the basics, however, it is flexible because ultimately we want you to make what you want to make. We assign different projects that aim to develop specific techniques. As you advance classes become more self directed.  This may include functional wares, sculpture, or design exploration.

Kids

  • Classes are 2 hours long.
  • Sessions are anywhere from 5 to 6 weeks depending where they fall in the year. -Our kids classes focus on hand building and do include some wheel work at the end of each session. What comes out of taking visual art at a young age is that it expands children’s visual-motor skills as well as developing their creatively and critical thinking. Students also benefit from the discipline of learning to clean up after themselves and being mindful of keeping their works

FAQs

Worry not, you ARE on the list.  We don’t send out a confirmation e-mail once you’ve submitted the form.

Weekday evenings and weekends are much longer wait times than weekday mornings.

Students are allowed to miss a maximum of 2 classes for which they can schedule make up classes.  That said the volume of students missing classes and scheduling make ups creates a lot of chaos.  We strongly encourage students not to miss as they reduce the quality of the experience at the studio for all.  Our 2 make up class policy is up for review this year.

Unfortunately not but a credit with the studio can be issued which can be transfer to a friend or be used at the Clay Space shop.

Yes, there is street parking on Gerrard St. which is free after 6pm.

You will have been given an introduction into hand building, the pottery wheel and glazing.  You will have learned enough to work somewhat independently.

Unfortunately we do not offer regular drop-in classes.  We do have a drop-in for intermediate and advanced customers but we have reached capacity and are not taking any new members.  Our apologizes

Unfortunately we do not anymore.  When the studio opened it was in the middle of a lockdown and we did rent out our kilns.  Now our studio is too busy and cannot handle outside work.

the studio is wheel chair accessible and has a ground floor bathroom.  We strive to make the studio completely accessible and are constantly making adjust menus to accommodate customers of all abilities.

We love all colors at Clay Space 🙂

Why yes you can.  We offer 2h beginner workshops from time to time.  If you are interested you can purchase a spot/s for someone ahead of time and we’ll reach out to you when we’re having our next workshop.  If the date doesn’t suit them they can always attend the following one. You can also go to out online shop at https://shop.clayspacestudio.com/ and purchase a gift certificate directly from the shop.  As for our regular classes, yes you are able to buy a gift certificate for someone however the wait time before we have a free spot in a class might be very long.  We only recommend this if this person is ok with the wait or if the person is able to attend a weekday morning class from 10am-1pm.
